Michigan (Planning a Trip)
Maple over the river, a statue of the spirit,
a robin is singing as apple blossoms are starting to bloom.
From Superman ice cream to a Superman shot,
I guess things barely change as we’re growing up.
We’ll go up north to see a lighthouse,
and we’ll stop for coney dogs and fries.
We’ll drink Vernors if Faygo is too sweet,
and you’ll ask how many minutes are left in the drive.
We’ll walk along the lake as we eat fudge for dessert,
and we’ll look for Petoskey stones.
When should we leave? Morels, tulips, or cherries?
I can’t hold your hand while I show you where we’ll go.
I’ll tell you about the time I caught a trout
as we watch a white tailed deer.
“Ope, lemme sneak past ya,”
you can see the stars from here.
Flowers in the spring and snow fall in the winter.
Woods, dunes, lakes, cities, views.
It spans beyond the picture.
